Is Ditto itself? I'm not sure, but I tried to make myself some extra Ditto using two I already had, and I cycled around for ages, with no egg. Was I just unlucky, or are Ditto incompatable with each other?

Possibly temporarily back. Again.
I think Ditto is one of those Pokemon that'll never breed like the Legends and other Baby Pokemon. Remember two genderless Pokemon don't breed like Staryu and Staryu but if it was Ditto and Staryu they would. So two Ditto are both genderless and have nothing to do with each other to make an Egg of another Ditto.Originally Posted by Darien Shields

If you look in pokémon stadium 2 (on N64), Ditto can be used to complete the breed every pokémon (exept for legendary pokémons...). So it's just some sort of plasma to help you get a new pokémon. If you want to get a new Ditto, you should catch one.
Well here’s a question how about metagross can he breed with ditto??
Yes it canOriginally Posted by lugiahoohgsca55

Well I’m confused I tried in ruby with ditto & metagross and the guy said they didn’t like each other why is that?Originally Posted by Dark Scizor
Most of the time, it'll say "They don't really like eachother.", but they'll still produce Eggs. Methinks Nintendo of America translated the line incorrectly.
It's ANIMation + MELEE. No "Anime" or "Lee".

how long do you have to walk be for the the guy gives you the egg?Originally Posted by Animelee
I can't tell you the exact figures, but it doesn't give specific times, rather chances. The more compatable the pokemon (the compatabillity is based on two factors, ID Number and Species. You want different ID number and same Species, for the best chance) the more likely they are to produce an egg in the allotted time. Basicly, you take so many steps, call it 100 (but it's not) and then it runs a calculation, using the chance based on how much they like each other. Chances are, with a bad pairing, you could have to work three or four hundred steps (in this scenario.) All I know is that I have like, a dozen Beldum.
Yeah, I always found this one of the disconcerting things about pokemon, even if they don't like each other they can 'get it on'. Sounds suspicious to me.

Ditto and Ditto aren't compatible but Ditto and a Pokemon for example Starmie or Metagross are.
The only things Ditto will not produce an egg with are:
Ditto
Articuno
Zapdos
Moltres
Mewtwo
Mew
Pichu
Cleffa
Igglybuff
Unown
Tyrouge
Smoochum
Elekid
Magby
Raikou
Entei
Suicune
Lugia
Ho-oh
Celebi
Azurill
Wynaut
Regirock
Regice
Registeel
Latias
Latios
Kyorge
Groudon
Rayquaza
Jirachi
Deoxys
Missed Nidorina and Nidoqueen.
I don't nderstand why Nidorina and Nidoqueen can't make eggs. It doesn't make sense. I know it's true, it just makes no sense. So if you want your Nidoran F, breed your Nidoran Fs together!
I'm back.
Well, the real reason is that the designers chose it to be that way.
Presumably the fluff reason is that Nidorina is a post-breeding stage in the Nido* life cycle, though why the males can still breed is a mystery. Stranger things do happen in the breeding cycles of many real world creatures though.

The reason Ditto can't breed with itself, logically speaking, is that it replicates the other Pokémon when breeding.
I am surprised that Ditto can breed with Metagross. I really didn't know that although it wouldn't actually make sense if it couldn't. Metagross is a genderless not a legendary, I guess I had the wrong impression.
The "pokemon don't seem to really like eachother" statement is NOT a mistranslation. The chances of two pokemon breeding is based also on personality. When they "don't like eachother", its the least chance of them ever getting together because of different personalitlies.... it doesn't mean they won't get together... like me and my x-gf. lol
I don't know about that. I've got some pretty solid experience in breeding now, and I've never noticed nature having any effect on the message given (I'm not saying it has *no* effect on egg rate - that's much harder to determine). It's determined by species and original trainer:Originally Posted by drgntamer

Same Trainer, Different Species = "They don't seem to like each other"
Different Trainer or Same Species = "They seem to get along"
Different Trainer *and* Same Species = "They seem to get along very well"
Note that different evolutions do count as different species (as do Volbeat/Illumise)
