Default SAW 5 or HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3?

Feels good to NOT have the entertainment forum anymore.

So, let's go... Oct 24, simple question.

    (Saw all the way)

Why not just stay home? Play Little Big Planet or Saints Row 2 or the new Spider Man, or Eternal Sonata. Don't torture yourself with two movies that should have had their sequels cut off a LONG time ago!

Eh go with Saw I guess, its less torturous.

Yeah, I'm sort of with Roy. Neither one is worth turning on the TV to watch, much less paying money and driving to a theater. There needs to be a third option in this poll, like "commit arson" or something.

I would say the World Series if the 24th wasn't an off day, so I guess I will say none of the above lol. So actually I don't know what I will watch, but I would be very surprised if it was either of the choices listed!! ~_^

Voting for number 3! I was leaning toward High School Musical, but I figured that either movie will cause my eyes to be ripped out, I mise on trust my own hands instead of the hands of bratty teenagers that cant sing. And really, I have seen the SAW movies, they will go for the eyes, and in the end I will come away with out a arm or head missing.

I choose number three too. Both movies should've stopped at the first one. Hell, HSM shouldn't have even started. Damn money maker.

Anyone who voted option 3 will be held to that decision, you realise. I mean come on... If you don't like a movie you can at least listen to your iPod and then be done with it. Personally I just imagine that y'all haven't tried removal of eyes with a diseased spork just yet, it's not as much fun or as interesting a story as you might have hoped.

Anyhow, I went with Saw V. I'm currently two Saws behind, as I haven't had a chance to see Saw (hehe) III or IV. The first one was watchable, the second less so, but still tolerable. I hate to judge things I haven't seen, but High School Musical looks dreadful, and this is coming from a man who loves musicals (said in the most masculine voice possible). Though there's a chance I'm just bitter that I never had a chance to be in a high school musical myself. Eats away at me every day, you see.

I haven't seen any of the movies in either series so I dunno. I really hate gore, and do like to veg out and watch the Disney Channel on occasion so I guess High School Musical 3? But since I haven't seen the other two (didn't know there was a 2!) I would be lost. I hate being lost while watching movies. I'd like to keep my eyes though, if possible.

Doesn't matter, on October 24th I'll be camping in Big Bend probably analyzing the grain size of random igneous rocks. The best part about majoring in geology is the field trips. Be jealous.

Eh, the Saw series kinda make my stomach turn...alot. Ouf of those two choices, I'd go see HSM3. I saw the first two and they weren't that bad, if you like those type of movies that break into song every 5 minutes or so, lol.

But, I doubt I'll be seeing either of these movies in the theater, so it doesnt really matter. but if I HAD to choose, it would be HSM3

OH gosh, dare I say that I'm actually looking forward to Saw 5? Decent camp, gory horror that gets cinema releases is very hard to come by. All we shlock horror fans have been treated to is Mirrors and Untraceable in the past year. Sure, I'd rather a new Elm Street but Saw 5 works well enough for me.

Finally, someone that makes some sense.

I swear to God, everyone on this board hates original horror movies (Yeah, it's had four sequels. So what? There've been a dozen movies showing a quiet guy in a hockey mask sticking sharp things in people and he's still a Hollywood icon, so stfu.)...

It's not horror, it's shock gore... real horror is more heavy on the psychological side... I just don't like movie gore, to be honest. Makes me cringe... Zombie movies are about as far as I go, and y'all should know by now how much Drusie loves a good zombie movie!

A new Elm Street, though? That would be awesome. I adore Englund.

Contradicting statements we have here... have you seen any of them, or are you blindly talking out of your ass based on what you heard? Because you just described Hostel, which is indeed a worthless piece of shit.

Also zombie movies suck and are hardly "heavy on the psychological side".

And Elm Street is not gore?

    A) There's no need to be rude. I expected better from you.
    B) Speaking as someone who analyzes horror movies as a hobby, yes the shock gore can be very psychological, but they rely more on the gore for the horror factor, and in my personal opinion, that's cheating. Sorry for having an opinion, I forgot that I'm not allowed to have them.
    C) I saw part of the first one and got bored.
    D) If zombie movies aren't psychological, you haven't seen the original Night of the Living Dead, just to name one. Not just a brain teaser, but political as well. Romero's movies should never be taken at face value; to do so would be to water it down and miss the true message.
    E) Elm Street is just silliness.

    A) Right... well, there is a first time for everything and there are some things I like to put my foot down on, like certain shallowness. I'm sorry if you expect me to be friendly 24/7 in any situation. Though it's true I am most of the time, but I'm not afraid to express myself.
    B) You think they rely more on the shock gore? Well, considering what you said for C that explains it. Try again. I analyze horror movies as a hobby as well. I would have never guessed that you do if you think that Saw relies more on gore. I agree with you that that's cheating, but Saw doesn't do that, and to say that it does would be pretty shallow. Maybe just the third one they might have been, but with the first two and the fourth they've been more focusing on the backstory and mystery and toned down the gore. AND for the record, while Saw usually gets the NC-17 rating which has to be edited down to R before release, Saw 5 is the first one that got an R straight off. So, it's not like they've been going out of their way for gore.
    C) No wonder...
    D) I actually have seen the original NotLD. That's the only zombie movie I have seen (unless you count Shaun of the Dead which was awesome). But anyway Saw shouldn't be taken at face value either. I'll admit though I didn't bother analyzing that one. Not like I did with Friday the 13th, the Shining, It, Sleepaway Camp, Se7en, 1408... and many more.
    E) Elm Street is fun...

I'd just like to add that the Ring is my favourite horror movie and that was way psychological. Although I think that comes under thriller too, not sure. I slept with my light on for three days I was so terrified. LOL.

But out of these two? High School Musical is way more scary than any Saw movie could ever be. Have you heard the songs they sing???? Oh my goodness, its enough to make me want to kill myself.

Horror isnt dead, as my horror movie friend adamantly told me, but he did admit that the genre of Horror and Gore have been confused by the mainstream public so much that its very hard to get people to realize their difference.

That stated, All the Saw's in my opinion suck. It will forever pwn them in my mind.

    All HSM's REALLY suck.

If he thinks they suck, I would assume he HADN'T indeed seen them all. Therefore, making that statement an uninformed one. If he'd seen all of them, and still thought they sucked, well nvm me then.

I don't know what you're trying to say, but it doesn't make sense because usually saying "they all suck" would hopefully mean that he HAS seen them (at least one) because then it would be fair judgement, unlike Dru here who claims it "relies on gore" followed by a claim that she hasn't seen it.

EDIT: Oh, I see what you're saying. If he had seen one and thought it sucked, then of course I wouldn't expect him to see them all. But I asked if he'd seen ANY of them, not necessarily ALL of them. Because he'd look like a bandwagon idiot if he said that "they all suck" without having seen ANY of them. You get what I am saying here?

well, I have seen all of the saw movies except this new one, and the reason I dont like them is because they are all so psychotic!!! I mean, there is a difference between zombie movies and horror movies like saw. Zombies arent real. But people in this world are crazy, and could do something crazy and psychotic like in saw, which is why it makes me sick to watch stuff like that.

but to each their own I guess

Saw is a movie franchise that relies heavily on the gore factor in order to keep the audience shocked and/or titilated. Other such ones include Hostel, Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills have eyes.

While the original Saw was a shocking modern classic in it's own right the subsequent sequels have diminished it's originality and reduced the public perception to shock gore.

So, saw is a subgenre of the horror genre. Just not a particularly engaging one for people like myself.

Personally, psychological/zombie/supernatural horror are much more favoured by myself. Ie - The Ring and the 1st half of Dawn of the Dead remake.

Saw might have a lot of gore, but it doesn't rely entirely on it. Don't even compare it to that shitfest that is Hostel, and certainly not the Hills Have Eyes. Yes, it's gross, but I think nowadays more people go see it for the plot twist/puzzle aspect of it rather than the gore. At least it's not the same story over and over again, the plots of each of them vary.

Though it's true none of them live up to the suspense factor of the first one, but as for me, I watch it to try and guess the end and come up with crazy theories as to what's gonna happen in the next one, like with Harry Potter. I know it sounds like a odd comparison, but to me, and to a lot of people I know who like it, both online and offline, the anticipation level is about the same and they like it mainly for that, not necessarily the gore. In fact I don't know anyone who watches it for gore.

I bet more than half the money Saw V makes won't be because of gore, but because of fans of the franchise who actually want to know what happens rather than see more gore.

There's also the creative trap designs that keep people interested, but most of them admire the traps themselves rather than the gore that happens in them. If that makes any sense, though I'm pretty sure you know what I'm getting at.

But Hostel? The Hills Have Eyes? Hell, even Friday the 13th is repetitve, I actually gave the first three a chance. and got bored by the same story every time, a bunch of people at a camp get killed by Jason, one person survives and beats him.

But anyway, one more reason I have high hopes of part 5 being better than 2-4 is because it's got a new director who's FAR better than that of 2-4. And, I saw a few preview clips and it looks like it's gonna live up to the first one. Of course I won't know for sure until Thursday night, but I'll post what I thought of it. And it won't be biased, because I'll say right now I actually hated most of Saw 4, found it to be really weak.

But as for zombie movies/supernatural horror being better, and what Sam said above... well, can't really argue, to each his own I guess. I think it's much more interesting when it's something that CAN happen, ever see Misery?

You know what, I'm thinking I'll change my vote from the rusted spork to High School Musical 3, just because it been left out of discussion.

Probably for a very good reason, but anyhoo.

I should probably watch it, because I have a bunch of 14 year old girls who will come up to me and tell me how adorable Zak Effron is (yuck.)

^This. The creativity in the SAW movies, both in terms of plot and, shall we say, plot instruments, is something that makes me think and keeps my interest.

    WOW...

This movie was fucking awesome. If you're a fan of the franchise, and hated part 4, SEE THIS, it makes 4 look like a joke.

The only issue I had was that you have to have seen all of them for it to make sense. I was shocked at some of the stuff from past movies they went out of their way to allude to, but thankfully answered a lot of questions. Not exactly the most demanded ones, but some. There were a LOT of past flashbacks, more than in any other Saw movie, but I'd say it balanced well.

Also... the twists were really clever, though unfortunately, without spoiling anything, don't expect anything groundbreaking. Kind of like in Saw III, it was more about the surprise of what HAPPENS rather than the twist. "You Won't Believe How It Ends"... meh, going out of the way for a tagline like that, I guess that works if they're talking about what happens rather than some secret truth revealed. The twists mainly pertained to the film itself rather than the whole series.

AMAZING character development, no lifeless boring shit that was 4. Also the main storyline is kind of like Saw II but better.

Not really fond of either of these, so I guess I'll poke my eyes out with the diseased spork

I think they should have kept HSM on the Disney Channel and left well enough alone. But they have to milk the cash cow someway.

And for Saw V--personally I don't do horror movies for the reason that I get scared you-know-what-less when I see one, then sleep? Forget it.
(My friend came over and brought along Jeepers Creepers for us to watch. Didn't sleep good for the next couple of nights)
